Tracey Trada Mutesi
FOUNDER
Tracey Mutesi is a proud British Rwandan mother of four, including her eldest daughter, Geraldine, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 12 in 2015. Tracey’s journey with diabetes advocacy is deeply personal, as her daughter’s diagnosis, alongside the heartbreaking loss of her father to type 2 diabetes in 2018, ignited her passion for creating meaningful change.
A seasoned public health professional with over 12 years of experience working with the NHS and local government, Tracey currently serves as a campaign champion for Diabetes UK and works as a Social Care Practitioner with the UCLH Hospital discharge team. Her career in healthcare, combined with her lived experience of managing diabetes within her family, drives her tireless advocacy work.
In 2018, after losing her father to complications from type 2 diabetes, Tracey channeled her grief and frustration into founding a non-profit organization aimed at supporting individuals affected by diabetes. Her passion for this cause deepened further during a visit to Muhima Hospital in Rwanda, where she met young people living with diabetes and was profoundly moved by their stories.
Despite enduring personal challenges, including caring for her terminally ill mother while managing her daughter’s condition, Tracey remains unwavering in her mission to improve the lives of those impacted by diabetes. Her commitment to advocacy, informed by both her professional expertise and personal experiences, continues to inspire and drive her work in the diabetes community.
